ESSENTIAL OILS
Natural Solutions to Support Healthy LearningHealthy Learning
Over the years of working with students, I’ve heard stories of parents and teachers searching for ways to naturally support their children and students. For me personally, this is dear to my heart because too often we hear about the over-medication of our children. I strongly believe there are natural ways to support our children’s varied needs, as well as future generations, as they grow and learn. Whether it’s for focus and concentration, positive and uplifting thoughts, or immune support, essential oils are a wonderful, natural and easy to use option for parents and teachers.
This is why I have incorporated essential oils into my life and into the lives of the students I serve. Essential oils can powerfully benefit brain function and processes when used both aromatically and topically. Due to their unique chemical constituents, essential oils are able to permeate the protective blood-brain barrier and provide support for healthy brain function.
Aromatically
Our sense of smell influences many physiological pathways including the stimulation of hormones and other metabolic processes. Essential oils can directly access the brain through the olfactory bulb and are able to initiate immediate physical and emotional responses in the brain. You can use a diffuser or place drops in palm of hand, rub together, cup hands together and inhale. Aromatic use is wonderful for activities such as studying, restful sleep, morning routines and immune support.
Topically
Due to their natural molecular composition, essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and thus able to enter the bloodstream very quickly. Essential oils can be used topically to support healthy brain function by applying them to pulse points on the back of the neck, inside of wrists, base of the skull and spine area, and bottoms of the feet. Topical use provides immune support, daily brain health, skin irritations, and cellular health of the body. It’s important to remember, when applying essential oils to children under the age of 7, and those with sensitive skin, to always use a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil. Why? It is important to only use Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®, or CPTG, essential oils to ensure the highest level of potency and purity. This is why I only use and recommend dōTERRA essential oils after researching several companies. It is important to note that essential oils should not be used to diagnose, treat or cure any disease or illness. It is recommended to use essential oils with the guidance of a physician.
Calming & Restful Essential Oils
Sleep is Critical for Success in the Classroom
The importance of sleep is well-understood, but it can sometimes be difficult to help children get to bed at night. The secret to sweet slumber for the little ones lies in creating a bedtime routine and sticking to it consistently. This might include reading a book to your child, turning off electronics an hour before bed, playing soothing music, and diffusing essential oils in your child’s bedroom. There is no perfect, one-size-fits-all bedtime regimen for kids, so experiment and find out what your child responds best to. Then, try not to vary too much. Having a predictable bedtime routine can help your child settle down for the night with less fuss and delay, and it can help instill healthy sleep habits for life. My Favorites for Rest & Calming
Serenity essential oil blend has a calming and relaxing aroma that soothes and provides a safe haven from life’s daily stressors. The essential oils in this blend lessen feelings of tension, calm emotions, and leave a peaceful feeling. Serenity is the perfect blend to diffuse at bedtime for a restful night’s sleep, or to help reduce the worry and stress as parents and for our children as they wind down from a busy day. This oil blend is great to diffuse starting about 30 minutes before bed time.
Serenity combines the soothing scents of Lavender, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ho Wood, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang with the warming aromas of Hawaiian Sandalwood and Vanilla Bean.
Lavender is well known for its calming and relaxing qualities. Lavender promotes a restful sleeping environment and reduces anxiousness by lessening feelings of tension and stress. Lavender also supports mental adaptability and performance. Just as this oil soothes and calms our brain and emotions, it does the same for our skin and can be dabbed on bug bites and other skin irritations to calm itching and soothe the skin. Lavender can be diffused or applied topically 1-2 drops (diluted on children age 7 and under).

Immune & Respiratory Support Essential Oils
Healthy Kids = Success in the Classroom
A healthy immune system works like body armor, protecting us from the threats that constantly bombard us. They’re on your hands, on the food you eat, and in the air you breathe. Like air, we don’t pay much attention to the immune system until something slips through a chink in the armor and we feel under the weather, we suddenly realize how much depends on it. Essential Oils are a great natural way to proactively protect ourselves and our children. I hear so many stories of kids who are missing school because of sick days. For children with learning issues, miss days in the classroom can set children back. Learn more about how to naturally support your children’s immune system here.
On Guard Protecting Blend
On Guard Protecting Blend, a proprietary essential oil blend, provides a natural and effective alternative for immune support when used internally. As one of doTERRA’s best-selling blends, doTERRA On Guard protects against environmental and seasonal threats with essential oils known for their positive effects on the immune system when ingested. It can also be used on surfaces throughout the home as a non-toxic cleaner. This oil blend is great for diffusing throughout the home and classroom to get rid of those nasty school germs, support your child’s growing immune support and keep your home’s air clean. This blend also has a wonderful warm aroma which is energizing and uplifting. Plus, it smells like Fall in a bottle so it is great to use instead of candles which can be irritants for your kiddos. Breathe Respiratory Blend
doTERRA Breathe is designed to help clear airways. Breathe blend can be diffused or applied topically to support clear airways and minimize seasonal threats. It has a minty, fresh, and airy aroma. The cooling and soothing sensation of doTERRA Breathe makes this a great blend to support children during seasonal threats. I recommend the Breathe TOUCH Rollerball which already has Fractionated Coconut Oil in it so it makes it simple to easily apply to young ones on the chest or back.
