If you’ve ever read with a dyslexic child you’ve probably been curious, or maybe even frustrated with the fact that when reading aloud they read multi-syllabic words with relative ease but often stumble over smaller words, typically sight words, such as; for, any, if,...read more
It’s a brand new school year and my heart is completely full… I feel so incredibly blessed to be doing this work that I love, work that fills me up inside and makes me feel like the luckiest person alive. I definitely don’t take it for granted. I’ve written similar...read more
I have no trouble with spelling personally, in fact I LOVE words and am fascinated by the way words are put together. However, although I work with the most amazing, brilliant and creative kids... kids with more visual/artistic talent in their little finger than I...read more
Each year, as we glide out of winter and begin to move into spring the pressure seems to mount in terms of student expectations for progress in school. This is especially true for kids who are performing below grade level in any or all subject areas. If you've read...read more
One of the MOST common and consistent issues I encounter as I work with kids who struggle academically, and sometimes physically and socially, is their own, self-created, sense of "failure". Once they realize how much I not only understand their plight, but also...read more
If your child is struggling in school there may be a very valid reason... A solid 90% of the students I work with are right-brained learners (dyslexics, ADD/ADHD, visual-spatial, etc) and they are BRILLIANT! But all of these kids are struggling in school. Once...read more
Did you know that Albert Einstein was dyslexic? How about Oprah Winfrey or Bill Gates? Dyslexia is NOT a disease... it's NOT something to be cured. People (10-20% of the population) are born dyslexic, they are not born WITH dyslexia. One thing I know for sure, based...read more

Parents frequently ask what they can do to support their child's progress with reading. And I always say that the MOST important thing we can do for kids to, is to empower them so that they become independent and strategic readers. What this means is that we want to...read more
Recommended Books About Visual-Spacial Learners
There are a lot of books on the market that talk about Right-Brained or Visual-Spatial Learners. These are some that I recommend.
Although some of these contain affiliate links, I stand 100% behind my recommendations as I have tested them, read them, and/or used them.
I know you will love them as much as I do.
doTERRA oils are my personal oils of choice. After much research I chose these oils for many reasons but mainly for their purity and quality as well as their effectiveness… they work! I use them on a daily basis in my home and for my own health but I diffuse these oils in the room where I’m working with kids. They have huge benefits to their focus and concentration as well as for calming and grounding before we get started.
Here are my favorite oils to use with my students:
Helping to enhance the senses and sustain focus, the InTune blend is perfect for staying on task when you are trying to study or concentrate. I use this daily to help kids settle down and focus on the task at hand.
On Guard - Protective Blend
As one of doTERRA’s most popular oils, doTERRA On Guard is a powerful proprietary blend that supports healthy immune function* and contains cleansing properties. I wouldn’t be without this blend! It cleanses and kills germs and airborne pathogens.
Widely used for its calming qualities, doTERRA Lavender Touch provides soothing comfort to the skin while relaxing the mind in an easy to use roll-on. I use this roll-on to soothe bug bites as well as to calm kids when they are in need of a little more focus.
Breathe - Respiratory Blend
A popular essential oil blend, doTERRA Breathe’s refreshing aroma can be used to create feelings of clear, easy breathing. I diffuse this oil continuously during cold and flu season to help with stuffy noses and easier breathing.
Serenity calms the senses and supports a restful nights’ sleep. I recommend this oil to parents to aid in the support of deep and restful sleep. Works like a charm!
